APA May 7 meeting – CO Education Ballot Initiative
May 7, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm MDT

APA May 7 Meeting
Hi friends – you may know that I’ve been passionate about paying teachers in our state a living wage for a long time. Many of you have joined me in collecting signatures for a variety of ballot initiatives that would help accomplish this, but we haven’t yet gotten one over the mark yet. We had a definite winner in the spring of 2020 – polls showed that if we would have collected enough signatures to get it on the ballot, voters would have approved it. But because of COVID, we didn’t get enough signatures.
Ballot Initiative 63
This time could be different. Great Education CO is involved in Ballot Initiative 63, which would increase support for Colorado’s P-12 public schools by:
- Providing $900 million in additional funding for P-12 public schools without changing taxes or tax rates.
- Dedicating 1/3 of 1% of taxable income to the State Education Fund each year.
- Allowing these revenues to be retained in years of rebates.
- Directing funding for “attracting, retaining, and compensating teachers and student support professionals.”
- Requiring funds to supplement current spending, not supplant it.
Speaker
