RECAP: APA January Meeting
This month’s meeting theme was “It’s your world: shape it or someone else will,” and U.S. Senate candidate Karen Breslin and Colorado Secretary of State candidate Amanda Gonzales joined for remarks. You can see them address APA here on Youtube https://www.youtube.
APA members in attendance also shared their thoughts on priorities for the year.
We had some great discussion and attendees offered the following topics as areas for APA to focus more on in 2026. If you’re interested in these topics, please let us know so you can take the lead on change in 2026.
– Support for graduated state income tax ballot measure
– Public conversation and support to remove money from politics (campaign finance reform)
– Healthcare Education: Developing statistics on the cost of managing health insurance firms including costs of administrative work and salaries of top management
– Ask City of Arvada to move funds from severe weather shelter to support additional mental health programming/beds at area mental health facilities.
– Engaging young progressives
– Election threats and election volunteer opportunities
– Partnerships with youth LGBTQIA+ groups
Attendees also expressed interest in new action teams or committees to work on:
– Organized labor and coalition building with and in support of unions
– Protecting trans rights
– Supplying banned books to our communities
We need your help to lead this new work! APA is a grassroots, volunteer organization and we rely on every member of our organization to be the engine behind our priorities. Jump in and let’s shape a new world together.
