We had a big weekend with two social connections/recruitment events.

First, on Saturday APA was at Arvada On Tap.

What an exciting day! Nine volunteers participated in APA/Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care’s first festival: “Arvada On Tap.” Our booth was in a great location: on the corner of the grassy area near the shade – it was Hot! Four advocates set up the tent, signs, tables, and chairs. Thanks to Allison and Taylor. Virginia and Cathy also were part of the action. Pat, Gage, Joyce, and Bruce staffed the booth during the afternoon

I have health insurance BUTT I'm still not covered!

There was a barbeque contest (free samples!), music, and lots of other interesting booths. Virginia, Pat, and Cathy walked around the festival wearing a hospital gown giving a peek at a fake bare bottom with a sign saying: “I have health insurance BUTT I’mstill not covered.”  The outfit attracted attention and a lot of laughs!

Laura and Kerry, from “Be a Hero” also helped out too. They are urging people to get active this summer in talking about their campaign to spread the word about how horrible Medicare DisAdvantage is.

We had about 15 new members sign up! Hope to see you at a meeting/event soon!

Our next festival event is Arvada Days on August 24. Come join in the Fun!

Second, on Sunday APA held our annual picnic.

Our annual potluck picnic was both informative and fun!  We had three elected officials attend as well as lots of members – old and new!  Thanks to Lisa Feret (Arvada City Council Member), Rachel Zenzinger (Colorado State Senator), and Annette Cannon (Jefferson County Coroner) for joining us. Rachel gave us a basis for the Jeffco Revenue Retention Initiative and how it will improve public safety and transportation, which just happens to be the topic for our next APA meeting! We hope everyone joins us for that as well. Information below!
