RECAP: Local Student Activism on Gun Violence and Environmental Protection
On Saturday, January 4th, 2025, the Arvadans for Progressive Action (APA) held their Monthly Meeting. We had brief reports from our APA Action Teams: Climate Change, Communications, Education, Health Care, Housing, Political Action, and Social Connections
Our Student Speakers Were:
Madhvi: A local 13-year-old middle school student and currently a UN Advisor. Her area of interest is climate change. She has been instrumental in getting single use plastic consumption reduced in the State of Colorado.
Rhiannon: A current CU Boulder student and Boettcher Scholar, and former Arvada West student; she is currently working on gun violence prevention as part of the national executive council for Team ENOUGH, which is under the Brady Campaign.
Anajalie: A current Arvada West High School student and the director of Team ENOUGH Denver working on gun violence prevention.
Our student speakers spoke about what life events inspired them to become activists and what they have accomplished so far. They also gave APA examples on how we could get involved in helping their efforts. Some of their initiatives to look out for are a gun violence prevention art show featuring student work and gun violence prevention bills introduced this year. Also PFAS and micro plastic prevention measures in the state legislature.
You can donate to Madhvi 4 EcoEthics or Team Enough to support these young activists work.
